A camper van is the Goldilocks RV: easier to park than a motorhome, more self-contained than a travel trailer. This directory lists 252 camper van rental companies across the United States, averaging 4.6 stars. I've rented four RVs myself, including one van that leaked in the rain, so I read reviews closely. Use the list below to find a company that fits your trip and your tolerance for surprises.

What you get with a camper van
Camper vans split the difference between a car and a full motorhome. You get a bed, usually a small kitchen, and a place to stand or at least sit up. They fit in normal parking spots, which matters in cities and trailheads. The 252 companies here average 4.6 stars, and many offer delivery, so you can skip the depot. But vans vary wildly: some are converted Sprinters with solar and a fridge, others are basic sleepers. Read the feature list. If you need a shower or a toilet, look at motorhomes instead. If you want to boondock, check for house battery capacity and water tank size. Ask about generator hours if the van has one; I once got a surprise fee for running mine.
Top-rated camper van companies
Six companies stand out with perfect 5.0 ratings. Boho Camper Vans leads with 453 reviews and offers delivery. Moterra Campervans - Glacier has 250 reviews. OffGrid Campervans (160 reviews) allows pets and offers airport pickup, which is handy if you fly in. Rv Sprinter Rental also has 160 reviews. Pacific RV Motorhome Rentals (92 reviews) offers insurance, though you should still check your own policy. Sequoia + Salt - Conversion Vans (78 reviews) delivers and focuses on camper vans only. High review counts and perfect scores are a good sign, but read the recent ones for complaints about cleanliness or hidden fees.
Booking and money matters
Book early for summer and holidays. Camper vans are the first to sell out because there are fewer of them than motorhomes. Expect a security deposit, often a hold on your card. Insurance is the big variable: some companies include it, others sell it, and your personal auto policy may or may not cover a rental. Ask who covers what before you swipe. One-way rentals are possible (26 companies in this directory offer them), but expect a drop fee. Kitchen and linen kits are sometimes extra, so ask. And confirm the mileage policy: unlimited is best, but some have caps. Pet rules vary, so if you're bringing a dog, filter for pet-friendly companies like OffGrid.
