Houston sprawls, and so does its RV rental scene. Six rental companies offer motorhomes, with five delivering to your door. Average rating is 4.1 across the listings. I've rented four RVs in my time, one of them a lemon, and once got hit with a surprise generator-hours fee. So I know what to check. What the numbers say
Six rental companies in Houston list motorhomes for rent. Five of them will deliver the unit to you, which saves a trip across town. The average rating sits at 4.1, but that hides a spread from 2.9 to 4.7. Read the reviews, especially the recent ones. Companies also offer camper vans (two listings) and travel trailers (three listings). No one-way rentals are listed here, so plan on returning the unit where you picked it up unless you confirm otherwise with the company. That's a common source of surprise fees. Delivery is handy if you're staying outside the city or don't want to drive a big rig through traffic. Ask where they'll drop it and whether there's a charge for that.
Who's who
American Dream Vacations NW HOU RV Rentals / Texas Best RV Buyers has the highest rating at 4.7 from 57 reviews, and they rent motorhomes, camper vans, and travel trailers. Cruise America RV Rental is a known name with a 4.4 from 36 reviews. Houston Motorhome Rentals (4.5 from 8) offers airport delivery, which could be handy if you're flying in. Roaming Bears RV has the most reviews (188) and a 4.0, so they've been around. Outdoorsy is a marketplace with a 2.9 from 10 reviews and offers insurance and delivery, but check the fine print. TXRVRENTALS is smaller (4 reviews, 4.3) but delivers.
Before you book
Ask about mileage limits and generator fees upfront. Some companies charge extra if you run the generator beyond a set number of hours, and that adds up. The security deposit and insurance are other big ones: know what's covered and what isn't. If you're bringing pets, confirm the pet policy. Kitchen and linen kits often cost extra, so decide if you need them. Summer and holidays book up fast, so reserve early. And if you're renting a motorhome, check the size and what kind of license you need. Better to ask now than at the counter.
